Abstract

In order to solve the problem of poor fuel combustion inside the rotary engine cylinder, a three-dimensional numerical simulation model of flow and combustion inside the cylinder of premixed gasoline rotary engine was established by the method of computational fluid dynamics, and the experimental results were compared and verified. Based on the combustion chamber pits of open type, straight-mouth type and narrow-mouth type, the influences of combustion chamber pit shape on the in-cylinder pressure, temperature, flame propagation and NO generation were researched. The results show that the combustion chamber pit shape has an obvious effect on the combustion process of fuel inside the cylinder under certain conditions. The fuel combustion effect of narrow-mouth type pit is the worst because the fuel is difficult to ignite near the shrink mouth. The open type pit can better organize the mixed gas flow inside the cylinder. During the combustion process, the faster gas flow rate and highspeed flow zone are used to promote the flame. The flame propagation speed becomes fast, the pressure rise rate becomes large, and hence the overall combustion rate in the cylinder accelerates. Compared with the straightmouth pit, the maximum combustion pressure of open type pit increases by 6.8%, the fuel consumption rate improves by 10.8%, and the mass fraction of NO still keeps about 0.5%.
