Abstract

The combustion and cycletocycle variation characteristics of Fischer-Tropsch (F-T) diesel and ChinaⅥ 0# diesel were investigated to improve the efficiency of F-T diesel on a high pressure common rail diesel engine under the full load conditions of 1 200, 2 000 and 2 800 r/min. Then the correlation between them was discussed. The results showed that the incylinder pressure, heat release rate and pressure rise rate of F-T diesel were lower than that of 0# diesel, but the phases of their peaks advanced. The ignition delay shortened by 0.7°CA1.2°CA, the combustion duration increased by 6°CA, CA50 advanced by 2°CA, and the brake thermal efficiency increased by 0.7%1.5% after using F-T  diesel. Besides, the cycle-to-cycle variation of FT diesel reduced and got the minimum at 2 000 r/min. The incylinder peak pressure increased linearly with the increase of ignition delay and decreased with the increase of combustion duration. At a certain range, shortening the ignition delay and prolonging the combustion duration could improve the cycle-to-cycle variation. The ignition delay had a higher Pearson's correlation with incylinder peak pressure than combustion duration and hence produced a greater influence on cycle-to-cycle variation.
