Abstract

The increase of ignition energy can help the early flame kernel growth of the leanburn sparkignition engines. Modeling the early flame kernel development can help understand how the ignition strategy influences the flame kernel. The early flame kernel expansion of lean natural gas and air mixture with different equivalent ratios was simulated using a 1D Lagrangian ignition model under different pressures. The ignition energy was changed by changing the number of parallel coils and the gap voltage and secondary coil current of different ignition strategies were measured through the experiment. The results show that the flame kernel of lean and highpressure mixture expands slowly. Increasing the number of parallel coils can increase the ignition energy, which can help the kernel expansion.
