Exhaust heat recovery system(EHRS) is a device for vehicle exhaust heat recovery. The coolant temperature, fuel consumption rate, HC, CO and NOx emissions were compared and analyzed on the engine with and without EHRS under different cold start conditions with different temperatures in new European driving cycle(NEDC), aiming to explore the influences of EHRS on fuel consumption and emissions of whole vehicle. In addition, the air conditioning heating experiment of passenger compartment was conducted under complicated condition(-20 ℃) to study the effects of EHRS on the comfort of air conditioning heating. Experimental results indicate that HC, CO and NOx emissions decrease by about 13.9%, 3.9% and 0.1% respectively under NEDC(25 ℃) while decrease by 25.99%, 13.91% and 18.18% approximately under NEDC(-7 ℃) .And the temperature of passenger compartment reaches 26 ℃ about 13 minutes earlier and its average temperature increases about 10 ℃ by using EHRS in the air conditioning heating experiment with complicated condition(-20 ℃).
