Abstract

The dynamic skip fire (DSF) is a fullyvariable engine cylinder deactivation technology, which allows each cylinder of engine to conduct deactivation dynamically. The control logic of DSF can make an appropriate strategy of cylinder deactivation with the solution of NVH problem, which bring a wider range of cylinder deactivation and hence increase the number of deactivated cylinder. Accordingly, DSP can achieve better fuel economy than traditional cylinder deactivation. According to car realtime measurement and analysis, the fuel saving of CLTC_P cycle for 1.4T  car retrofitted with DSP was around 7%, which was close to that of idle startstop. DSF had a different fuel economy under different conditions and the data showed that the fuel saving effect of NEDC was superior to that of CLTC_P. In addition, DSP could be matched with 48 V hybrid technology, intelligent control, Miller cycle engine and homogeneous leanburn engine so as to realize integrated fuel economy. The composite technology was good choice to meet the fifth stage fuel consumption target value for automobile manufacturer.
