Research on Friction Characteristics of Piston Ring and Cylinder Liner Pair Based on GT-Suite

Abstract

Taking the piston ring and cylinder liner pair as the research object, the model of piston ring and cylinder liner pair was established by coupling the friction, lubrication and dynamics with GT-Suite software, the distortion of piston ring and cylinder liner and the surface roughness were considered, and then the oil film thickness, oil pressure distribution, friction stress and friction power loss at rated conditions were calculated and analyzed. The oil film thickness and friction power loss of the first piston ring were mainly analyzed under different temperatures and speeds. The results showed the bad lubrication effect and high friction power loss in the first piston ring. With the increase of oil temperature, both the oil film thickness and the friction power loss decreased obviously. It was found that the friction performance between 80 ℃ and 90 ℃ was optimal. With the increase of speed, both the oil film thickness and the friction power loss increased. In general, the speed had little influence on the oil film thickness and significant impact on the friction power loss.
