Abstract

For a two-stage centrifugal compressor working at high altitudes, the influences of different inlet conditions including low pressure and small Reynolds number on the high and low pressure stage compressor were analyzed theoretically. The characteristics of the high and low pressure stage compressors were studied at simulated altitudes of 0 m,2 500 m and 5 500 m on self-developed characteristic test bed of two-stage centrifugal compressor. Efficiency and flow characteristics of two-stage compressors were discussed by using mass flow rate at different altitudes. The results showed that the steady flow range of compressor contracted and moved to a small flow range with the decrease of Reynolds number caused by the decrease of inlet pressure and temperature at high altitudes. Compared with those at 0 m, mass flow rate, adiabatic efficiency and Reynolds number decreased by 25%-36%1%-3.8%  and 51% respectively for the low pressure stage compressor and by 26%-34%, 1%-2.5% and 35% respectively for the high stage compressor at 5 500 m.
