Influence of Turbine End Thermal Boundary for Turbocharger on Flow Field Simulation

Abstract

Taking a turbocharger turbine end as the research object, a combination of simulation and test was used to study the turbine end flow field of turbocharger. By establishing a 3D geometric model of turbocharger, the fluid domain was extracted and the flow field simulation calculation was conducted. Three kinds of thermal boundary conditions were set to investigate the influence of thermal boundary conditions on the simulation results of temperature, pressure and velocity field and explore its effect on the results of efficiency calculation. The turbocharger hot-blowing test was further designed to verify the simulation results and the transient variation laws of temperature field at turbine end and the influences of intake air temperature and flow rate on it were studied. The analysis found that the full conjugate heat transfer could calculate the temperature field of turbine end fluid domain and the efficiency of turbocharger more accurately and the calculation error was less than 5%. In addition, the non-conjugate and partial conjugate error were larger.
