Abstract

The combustion chamber geometry of diesel engine has a direct influence on the atomization and combustion of in-cylinder fuel. In order to meet the increasingly stringent emission regulations, a diesel engine was taken as the study object. The geometry of prototype ω-shaped combustion chamber was modified using AVL FIRE software under the premise of maintaining the same compression ratio. The annular convex structure and the center cam structure were introduced to construct the TCD combustion chamber. For TCD, the letter "T" stands for turbocharger, the letter "C" stands for charger air cooling, and the letter "D" stands for diesel particle filter. The structural parameters of TCD combustion chamber were then optimized. The effects of combustion chambers with different geometries on the performance and emissions of diesel engine were investigated using simulation. The results show that the performance of TCD combustion chamber is significantly influenced by the diameter of combustion chamber. Diameter that is either too large or too small will reduce the indicated power. The optimized TCD combustion chamber exhibits 0.98% increase in indicated power compared to that before optimization and 8.26% increase compared to the prototype ω-shaped combustion chamber. Furthermore, the soot emissions reduce by 67.19% compared to that before optimization and by 88.37% compared to the prototype ωshaped combustion chamber.
