Abstract

The working condition of piston ring-liner of highly-strengthened diesel engine at the TDC is so severe that boundary lubrication state may dominate at that moment. Surface micro-texture has been proved to be an effective approach to improve surface tribological properties. However, there still lacks boundary lubrication numerical models considering surface texture. The boundary lubrication model of piston ring-liner considering the effect of surface texture and tribofilms was established, which was used to calculate the wear loss that took into account of the effect of surface texture. The calculated results were consistent with the results of boundary lubrication test, and the wear depth of optimal selected surface texture was 33.7% lower than that of non-texture.
