Abstract

The spray characteristics of B5 biodiesel and Beijing standard -10 diesel were studied under different injection pressures, ambient temperatures and fuel temperatures based on single-hole injector combined with high-speed photography technology, which included spray form, spray penetration distance, spray penetration speed and spray cone angle. The results show that the spray penetration distances of both fuels are almost linear with time. The spray penetration speed is large at the beginning and increases with the increase of injection pressure. With the development of the spray, the spray penetration speed gradually decreases and has an obvious decrease under the higher injection pressure. Under the condition of the same injection pressure and fuel temperature, the maximum spray penetration speed will be larger when ambient temperature increases from 25 ℃ to 350 ℃ and reaches 400 m/s at the injection pressure of 120 MPa. Compared with Beijing standard -10 diesel, the evaporation duration of B5 biodiesel is longer, which shows that the boiling point of B5 biodiesel increases after adding biodiesel and the evaporation hence becomes slow at the same temperature. In addition, the spray cone angle of Beijing standard -10 diesel is slightly larger because its low viscosity reduces the force between the droplets.
