Abstract

Electricallyheated catalyst (EHC) of metallic substrate was used to study the influence of heating voltage, heating time and noble metal coating on emission performance of gasoline engine during the cold start. The test results showed that EHC substrate had a small heat capacity and a fast temperature rise, and the conversion efficiency of THC, CO and NOx was higher than that of ceramic substrate. The higher heating power of EHC led by the higher heating voltage, and directly affected the conversion efficiency of THC, CO and NOx. If the heating time of EHC was enough, continuing to heat would not probably achieve more emission reduction. Accordingly, the application of EHC was able to reduce the noble metal of catalytic converter by 50%.
