Abstract

Based on a self-developed ion current detection system, the effects of operating condition parameters including different EGR rate, engine speed and cooling water temperature on ion current were studied on a modified 4-cylinder diesel engine with high pressure common rail. The results showed that the peak value and integrated value of ion current decreased with the increase of EGR rate and engine speed, but increased with the increase of cooling water temperature. The ion current phase CAI50 was always later than the combustion phase CA50 and the variation laws of the two were consistent under different operating condition parameters, which proved that ion current signal can express in-cylinder combustion state in diesel engine reliably.
