The emission responses of a heavy-duty diesel engine were studied based on the China Ⅵ standard under different test cycles. According to the comparative analysis of original emission, exhaust emission, working condition and exhaust temperature under the steady-state and transient cycles, American EPA standard cycle and China standard cycle had similar assessment ability, and China cycle and the world harmonized cycle also had similar assessment ability. To a certain extent, LLC cycle could well assess the exhaust temperature rising and maintaining capacity of engine during longterm operation under low load and frequent switching between high and low load, which is a big challenge for the exhaust emission control capacity. A long time hot soak will lead to the lower exhaust temperature of hot start cycle, which is a challenge for the exhaust temperature retention capacity and hot start emission reduction of the posttreatment system.
